Well done John and Dan, making the time and effort to meet up. It started me wondering... How would we go about organizing a global TUG (Thorn User Group) meeting/rally? It would have to be in and around Bridgwater I guess, and would take at least 12 months to plan. Anybody think it's an idea worth pursuing?

Having said that, it is nice to meet like-minded people in their home settings... If anyone finds themselves on the east coast of Oz, we're in Newcastle (on Hunter), the best kept secret in Australia. Feel free to reach out and PM me for a catch up!  :)

Sam

great idea dont think it would ever happen though. ::)

Catching up after a couple days away on a test-tour...

Tom, that's a wonderful picture of Daniel on the horse and his sister behind. Looking forward to seeing one of your fine self as well!

Sam, I do so wish we really could have a "gathering" of all members -- wouldn't that be wonderful? Given how scattered we are I can't see it happening in any numbers on a worldwide basis, but perhaps some local enclaves of Thorn ownership could still get together for a meetup and chat over a cuppa or two.

I know it was a real treat to meet John Saxby in person, and I last saw Miguel (kickingcones) back in uni days some 28 years or so ago, though we're on opposite shores of the Pacific Ocean these days. I wish more meetings were possible but alas, for many of us, this will be our most likely meetup.

I do have a plan I am working on, so stay tuned. There are some details to work out, but "Something" might happen. Really!

All the best,

Dan. (...who is also working on a plan to lengthen his days)

Erudin!

Pleased t'meetcha!

What terrific photos of yourself, and in trying circumstances you still look like the same pleasant fellow we know here!

I love the "action shots" and think you've done a terrific job posting these...even better than the usual posed shots. Can I give a hand with the puncture?

All the best,

Dan. (who is hoping the rain stopped for the rest of your ride)

Maybe Ian means son Noel's Reynolds 531-framed Fixie, since it isn't a Thorn.

Best,

Dan.

Just got back from a 40 mile ride on the Sherpa. Felt pretty good and I am already becoming very fond of this little bike.  Still a few shoulder and neck problems, but nowhere near as bad as before, perfectly manageable. The saddle was fairly comfortable too considering it's a new Brooks B17. It was starting to feel a little sore by the time I had finished, but I would expect that after 40 miles on a new saddle. My older Brooks Flyer is also much more comfortable on my old commuter than it ever was on the Dawes. Can't decide at the moment whether to move the Flyer onto the Sherpa or not. It seems a shame to mess about with the saddle when it seems reasonably comfortable as it is. Perhaps I will just soften up the new one, so that either of them can be used on the trip.

Keep forgetting to take a camera out with me on my rides. Not too hilly today, but pretty gusty winds and made cycling even the small hills hard work when into the headwind. Average speed over the 40 miles 10.8mph, so I would say the Sherpa is slower than the Dawes, but it could also be due to the wind. When on the bike however, it does feel like you are going faster than you really are.

Saddle has now been given a coating of proofhide and the cateye computer has been fitted. I feel lost without that computer.

Thought I would post a picture of me and Sherpa at the end of the ride.

That's a very nicely balanced bike. I like the smaller sizes with the 26" wheels. Looks all set for a tour with the racks and accessory bar. Oh, and I do appreciate a well cut lawn!
