Kickstand for a '10 Nomad mk 2 w/ disc brake?

The shifter cables make a normal kickstand unusable, perhaps a rear-mount?

Greenfield stabilizer?

Pletscher multi-zoom?

My LBS's don't have these in stock, so any info would be appreciated.   This is a 590L with a rear disc brake.

Many cyclists here -- like Thorn -- prefer the Click-Stand as an alternative to the regular kickstand. However, many here also prefer the traditional stands in a variety of flavors and have had no problems with them. It really is a matter of personal preference, though it is helpful to keep Thorn's recommendations in mind for warranty purposes.

Yes, I love the yellow.  Dan, thanks for the search, but I've already been through those.

The reason none of your links re-assure me is because a front mount kickstand doesn't work (at least my 2-leg pletscher doesn't), because of the cable routing, and I worry that a rear mount kickstand won't either.

Specifically, I've read many non-thorn people elsewhere saying that various rear-mount kickstands don't work for their bikes because of clearence issues with a rear disc brake.

I've thought about the click-stand, and while I have friends of friends who swear by them, I'd rather have something that works w/ a kick.

Me too! I thought it looked particularly nice in your photos related to fitting the disk brakes -- it simply glowed!

Pete, I did not realize your dilemma, but now I do. Annnnnd...I think I may have a possible solution for you.

XLC make a "Rear End Kick Stand KS-R06" which can be  adjusted to fit bikes from 24"-28". Their description says, "Thanks to the adjustable fastening for different chainstay angles, this kick stand is particularly suited to bikes with disc brakes". It is available in black, listed under article number 2502610700 at any XLC dealer. As for quality, I am hopeful. A friend of mine bought some replacement chainrings made by XLC on his way to Santiago de Compostela last year. In the photos, they looked very nicely made, and he has remained pleased with them. As a company, XLC reminds me a little of BBB in The Netherlands.

I feel sure a Steco Stabiel Postal Delivery kickstand would work with a rear disc brake. I remember seeing them on postal bikes when I was in Europe, and they surely did the job. You'd have to trim it for use with 26" wheels, but that's doable.

DBB is located up in Assen, northern Netherlands, but wholly workable for US delivery if you can't find anything else.

I put a Pletscher multi-zoom on. It works, though the plastic extension at the end of the kickstand feels a bit flimsy. Not sure how well it would hold up to a fully loaded bike, but I guess I'll find out.

I'm attaching a picture of an installed kickstand, though this isn't my bike. Again, my bike has a rohloff, with a rear disc brake and there is plenty of room for the pletscher attachment.

Thanks for the followup and showing your selection.

Glad you found your kickstand; I hope it works out well for you...Pletscher is a good, well-made brand, and I don't foresee any problems. At one point, they (when they were ESGE-Pletscher) offered a rubber foot for the end, which was very durable and well-made and large enough to prevent sinking in loose soil and wet grass. It was a bit heavy, but lasted and lasted. I have one on the rear-mount Pletscher I attached to my father's bicycle, and it is still soft and pliable 19 years later.

Looking forward to any long-term use reports you might offer; looks good!

All held up by the ESGE-Pletscher multi-zoom. It works very well, been using it for the past 16 moths, with quite a lot of loaded tours including 18 days/1000kms in Tasmania. No concerns about the plastic foot - it seems pretty tough. Just make sure you do it all up nice and tight, especially the bolts around the stay mount. I had mine too loose for a while (worried about crushing the stay) and tightened some more it has been much more solid.

If you have it on the Thorn Nomad and run a disc brake it would co-exist quite easily I'd reckon. Look at where it sits re the disc munts.

There's a centimeter between the kickstand support and the disc brake support, and between the support and the rotor.

I have just purchased an MK2 Nomad and a Pletscher kickstand, the routing of the cables is so perfect I don't have the heart to alter the routing.

I may have a good compromise though (Gearoop kickstand) mounted to the crank arm, I have one on the way.

It may not be ok for heavy loads or soft ground but it looks great for everyday hardcore commuting, all other times I will have to lean it on something.

If anyone is interested I will give feedback when I try it after a few months.

Tried the Gearoop kickstand,
 I carry saddle bags on the back with rain coat and rain pants, thermos and a lunch box on top of rack, total on the rear 11kg including rack bags and cargo, on the front I have one pannier with a winter coat in it very light weight?.
 I started out upright and started to shorten the arms just enough to get the bike to lean just enough to not fall the opposite way. Just as the bike was leaning enough one of the legs broke off of the Gearoop kickstand.
   Clearly a failure because I had not even put it on the kickstand under normal use, I was still in the middle of adjusting it and leaning it slowly on to the kickstand when it broke.
   Very disappointed I had high hopes and confidence that I bought 4, ouch.
