"If one never grows up, they've found the Fountain of Youth".

Not a bad thing, methinks.

All the best,

Jags, no worries: "You're always young on the bike." (And welcome to the 7th decade, by the way.  To celebrate my 60th birthday a few years ago, I rode from Ottawa to Halifax with a friend of many year. he was 72 at the time.)

'Course, there is the saying too, that old (motor)cyclists never die, they just lose their bearings...

Jags, new bike fever is a terrible thing.

I am a fellow sufferer, and like you a Thorn Audax is the object of my desires - even though I already own a very similar beastie!

Apart from the financial considerations I am also thwarted by lack of storage for any additions to my fleet; this even takes me so far as to consider selling my RST but so far that option is very quickly discounted - a strong bond has formed there.  My current thinking is to get a second garden shed, but the first one needs to be replaced first!  So, a long financial way to go before I actually buy a new bike.

Meanwhile the never ending ponders go on .... 9 speed XT or 10 speed Tiagra etc etc etc ... it's definitely an affliction Jags, and I don't think it'll ever go away until we get our new steeds!

By a strange coincidence Jags, I was watching a programme on TV just recently that was reporting on a survey.
The survey said that Men mature on average at the age of 43.

Guess they never surveyed cyclists.......  ;D
In the end, it's not going to matter how many breaths you took, but how many moments took your breath away.

Jags,

The day when you posted that all people which start answering a question with the word "Basically" should be shot, I thought you might be a wee bit off.  However, in a good sort of way!  Fortunately, as I understand it, if a person is truly mentally ill they have not a clue.

I had almost $4000us squirreled away and one day my wife asked me what I intended to do with it.  I replied that I was going to buy a couple of bikes and some camping gear.  She told me that she had a talk with my nephew's dentist (raised by us since birth), and that was about what it would cost to get his teeth fixed.  She then asked me what I thought I should to with the money.  When I did not answer immediately, she called me crazy!

But, I have to admit that when the boy now smiles; I SEE TWO SERPAS (one of which could have been yours) A GREAT CAMPING KIT AND ME AND THE BOY RIDING OFF INTO THE SUNSET!  Of course I could just tell the boy about the bikes and gear and the money (I know which he would choose: he is male).  But that is not the right thing to do (because my wife would kill me!).

I short, I think most of us are a little out of step.  And proud of it!  Love your post Jags, keep it up.

Tom (who again is counting his pennies)

Cheers Tom oh to have that 4000 stashed the wife would never know a thing about it  ;)
teeth teeth what teeth i lost them years ago ;D ;D you dont really need teeth there only for smileing and trying to impress the fairer sex i'm gone way past both...

Tom from an early age i always had the best in bikes have to say i love the feckin things .a new bike is not going to make me go faster or climb that hill but it will do my brainless head the world of good.
i almost  had that Audax in my hands i could see myself putting it up on the bikestand and fixing all the new shiney groupset onto her, man i had the finished bike in my head but alas the sale of my sherpa fell through so for the time being that new audax will have to stay in my head for another wee while.
at least i will keep me dreaming. ;D ;D

My vintage bike built cost a lot too (well for me, a lot)...luckily I had a lot of old games etc. that were worth cash on EvilBay.
So yeah Jags I know what you mean and if a smaller XTC would come up I'd probably go, ah well, another bit more towards 0 on the aul bank account... ;)

You mean bike fever isn't a natural state? Gee, what an extraordinary idea!
