Looks great, wish it had been there when I lived in the South Island for four years from 1998. The bridge crossings look fun, and the shot of the bungy jump at the Kawerau brought back memories..
Must go and have a look for a map of these new trails.

Well today I got a few things in the mail!

1st: Off I got my new cooker for planned cycle tours to come http://www.primus.eu/omnilite/

2nd: I got my new N.O.S Blackburn "Bomber" 1.5l bottle cage! (thanks Dan for the heads up about Bomber cage) it looks far stronger then the new 1.5 litre bottle cages made today!

So cool they all turned up on my B Day!!!

How I have to find a 2nd Blackburn Bomber cage some wear? Yes there was a 2nd one on Ebay! but I had to have one 1st to check them out?? (So Dan if you see any more for sale please let me know  thanks)

Sure! I'll be happy to keep eyes open for more Blackburn Bombers. These are the sturdiest 1.5l bottle cages I've ever used; "bombproof".

As many as 3 can be fit to medium and larger-sized Thorn frames. The back-plate has multiple holes, allowing the fitting location to be adjusted and the bottle can be even offset between the mounting bolts so one can also be put beneath the downtube as well. Just be aware of the reduced ground clearance caused by the lower bottle retaining hoop.

Hi All,
Well I have My Suspension Forks back on Tom   O" my arms and hands love me again, I can and have pumped up my front tyre again (from 18psi to 25psi).

Also today (1 April!) I played a good joke on my friends  

Asked if they would like to came along to my wedding this afternoon! To Who? Well I meet this great lady last night on the way home (at 7.00pm) she cooked me dinner and stayed the night and I asked her this morning if she would like to get married this afternoon and she said Yes!

Two hours latter (before mid day) I asked them if they new which day it was!      Ha Ha I had got them..

Hi All,
Well tonight I ordered a few http://www.click-stand.com/.
Why a few well 1x for my STD Touring set up, 1x for my STD Touring set up with my 2.3" offroad tyres on, and 1x for when I'm running with my Suspension Forks on.

I think this is the last gear for me to cross off my list of things to take on my planned up coming cycle tour.

The only thing that I have not got is a good set of Cook Pots? do I go with Ti or SS? Pots??
I have ruled out AL Pots! I know that if I was just planning to boil water I would go with Ti But I'm thinking that SS pots may be better to cook with?

Any idea's?

I have some MSR ti pots. the titanium seems seems to have a slight non stick effect compared to alu pots not sure about ss. However they do seem a bit over priced and I managed to warp the bottom of one of them melting snow on too high a heat.

I have some Trangia Duossal pans which are stainless clad in aluminium. ie 2 layers.
The inner stainless can be scoured for cleaning whilst the outer aluminium cladding transmits the stove heat well.

Stainless on its own is not a good conductor of heat, in use you will get hot spots in the pan base which may make burning food easier.

The latest hard anodised aluminium Trangia pans are good. Very tough and light - that is what I use now.
I went Snowpeak titanium for my insulated mug.

After trying a series of different approaches over the years, I'm now down to just my EverNew anodized alu nesting bowl set with lid, shown here: http://www.thorncycles.co.uk/forums/index.php?topic=3850.msg16915#msg16915

The hard-anodic barrier prevents the aluminum from leaching into my food or water, is lightweight, and transfers heat very efficiently. Mine are lighter than their titanium counterparts.

Most of my on-tour cooking boils down to ehm, boiling water. Freeze-dried meals are too expensive for me, so I pre-package meals from dried ingredients and dump the contents into zip-top freezer bags, each requiring a single cup of boiling water to reconstitute. To speed the process and save fuel, I place the freezer bag in a homemade Reflectix (aluminized bubble wrap) cozy (a little sack with foldover lid secured by a spot or two of velcro). Using this method, even dried beans come out tender and fully cooked after 6 minutes in the sack with the boiling water. When it is ready, I either eat out of the sack held in the cozy or place the freezer bag in one of the bowls. Water is usually at a premium where I ride, so this means none is required to clean the dishes. When done, the freezer bag becomes trash sack to be disposed of properly and responsibly.

Pete, if you will be cooking smallish quantities of food or boiling water -- around 500ml or less at a time -- then a small bowl set can substitute pretty nicely for a much larger cookset, saving some weight and room in your bags. Or...if you'll be going solo or with just one other person, the hard-anodized GSI cooksets are a pretty nice deal and reasonably priced; some are built around a tea kettle for really efficient and convenient boiling. The hard-ano'd surface cleans up pretty easily. Among my favorites are these:

hard-anodized is still aluminum and not a coating! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anodizing I worked as a camping tour bus driver all over/around Europe, North Africa, and New Zealand full time for years (five plus) I only got to stay in a bed 4 days in 3 years

I would also like to say sorry Dan about "Al" Pot's, I was not digging at you. Just I'm not going there about "AL" pot's? years ago on my way up to Lapland  (driving a tour bus) I was boiling some water and it ended up removing the Hard Anodizing  (I think it may have been acids in the water)

Nice to see the article, Pete; so glad you're back in the mix again and able to ride once more. Too close a call for you; way too close!

As for the pots; I understand completely. Anodized aluminum provides only partial protection of the substrate if the roughened pores formed during anodizing aren't closed (sealed). Even then, corrosives can work their way through to the aluminum beneath. Yes, that Lap water was likely very corrosive!

Between titanium and stainless, I almost think I'd choose titanium. In the past, I've found some poorer-quality stainless bottles can develop a metallic "taste" depending on the makeup of the water they carry, apparently due to leaching of nickel. I've found titanium to be "flavor free" in my use, so I think that would tip the scales more toward of the MSRs.
