Pete, Jim, thanks for the pictures.
I've come full circle back to thinking about saddle bags because they offer the possibility of carrying capacity without racks. They seem to offer the tantalising combination of volume, robustness, simplicity and relatively light weight. I was hoping the springs on the flyer would help support the bag better than a B17 would. I think all bike luggage frets against something somewhere.
When I read about bikepacking elsewhere I feel sure the saddle bag is about to get reinvented soon.

My Saddle bag is just like a Carradice Zipped Roll (well almost  ;)) it has a zip across the rear top under a flap. I find my Front better then the Saddle Bag, and the frame bag worked out great too.
I like having my gear as low as I can! this is why I'm looking to make a bag to fit on to the rear of My seat tube, I will have a Zip on the left hand side (more room and no chain).

Well? there are good and bad! so far, I'm still testing them.
Good for open road with all the different hand position's!
Bad for hairpin bends (I can off on the weekend doing a u-turn)

Hi Yes I was at speed  ::) about 00.4kph!  :P
Would have been so easy on a Unicycle, some times less is better.
Just too hard to cycle tour on a Unicycle  :o O' yes I have designed and build a Ti Muni (Mountain Unicycle) too...

Anyway unicycles are surely the logical endpoint of the fixie craze, at least when some one learns to skid on one  :o

only joking buddy when our great hero Sean Kelly fell in the tour de france and broke his collor bone he was only doing 5mph so you gotta be thinking all the time when cycling ;)
say Pete have you made any videos on your adventures love to see that country of yours.

I was doing some (trying) Bike Trials on my Nomad!
I'm loving my Nomad Bike so much that I have been riding over rock, off drops, and trying to turn on a coin! (not a good out come) as you all know  ;)

Well last weekend was great! and Sunny too.
Having Fun Mountain Biking on My Nomad.
I got my Free Garmin TOPO OZ & NZ data card for My new Garmin GPSMAP 62s at last it's great (can find my way home)  ::) (OK I know my way home around Taupo) it is looking good! to help me out once I go Cycle Touring about New Zealand (and oversea's)

And Free! Free is always good!  That's a great GPS you got, Pete, and will do you in good stead. Very popular with geocachers due to its accuracy and ease of use -- both sterling qualities for Adventure touring, especially when one is fatigued or conditions are poor. Good on ya!

Hi Dan,
Yes I read up about GPS's alot before I got this one it's great so far, I plan to use it for My tour of the South Island (overseas) as we have a lot of tracks that I can ride on and Topo Maps cost a lot and I would need 20+ maps if it was not for My new GPS.
It is looking like I will need 3 GPS Maps for My Africa Tour (at this time)

Well I have been riding a lot about the MTB track's around Taupo, i'll loving my Thorn  ;)
I'm also start to like My "Jeff Jone's Loop H-Bars" (Handlebar's) it just all working for me! (I have to said a big Thanks to Chris  from "Puresports" Thorn's New Zealand dealer)
