Handle Bar bag mounting bracket.

I have yet to decide on what bar bag I will use yet, there is so much choice, and brackets too. My question is, do bar bags come with a mounting bracket or is it an additional item to buy?

Typically, they come with a bracket, Andy. Additional brackets or spacers for them are available separately for use on a second bike or to meet some specialized need.
Best,
Dan.

If you go Ortlieb doe not get the Ortlieb bracket.
Rixen & Kaul klikfix is fits Ortlieb, is easier to attach to the bike and the fixing cable can be re used unlike Ortlieb and the bag is easier to attach and remove from the bike.
The Ortlieb bags are good but the brackets are very ordinary.

I am with Mike. I have both an Ortlieb mounting bracket and a Rixen & Kaul klikfix. The Rixen & Kaul is a the better option in my experience.

+1 for KlickFix
Spouse and I have a KlickFix mount on each bike.
She has a cheapo no-name-brand handlebar bag that came with a useless plastic mount
which I removed and replaced with a KlickFix bag/basket mounting plate:
http://www.jejamescycles.co.uk/rixen-kaul-mounting-bracket-for-klickfix-id39281.html
(Rixen
I then bought a 2nd-hand Carradice Handlebar bag
http://www.carradice.co.uk/index.php?page_id=product&under=type&product_id=18
which I can heartily recommend, but it is rather pricey if you pay full-price.
The other interesting thing to note about the KlickFix mount is that it stands out ahead of the handlebars
and thus makes the handlebar bag stand away from the bars
such that brake and gear cables can pass behind the handlebar bag fairly neatly on a set of Thorn comfort bars even with a short stem.

Regardless of the option you go with, you might consider either a 2nd stem or a Thorn T Bar mount to lower the handlebar bag, assuming you have enough steerer tube for that. The T Bar come in a couple different lengths. I use this short one on my Nomad.

On a different bike I use a 80mm 10 degree stem with a short piece of PVC pipe to serve the same purpose.
Photo is the one on my Nomad.
