Removing Thorn Cork Grips
« on: November 15, 2007, 11:38:10 pm »
My wife's Raven Tour has Thorn Comfort Bars with the Thorn Cork grips.

I need to remove the grips. Does anyone know how to do that without damaging them so they can be reused?

The grips have a rubbery core with the cork on the outside.

Just try rotating the grips and pulling them off.

If this doesn't work, try pushing something small and with no sharp edges between the bar and grip from the inside edge and squirting water into the gap this creates.
Rotate the grip to break any seal and spread the water, this should let you work them off without any damage to bars or grips.

Slide a very thin screwdriver down inside. Then a short squirt of WD 40 should do the trick.
The WD 40 will evaporate.

Upon refitting spritz the inside of the grip with hairspray (sure you'll have some at the bottom of your toolbox). Lubes the grip on and sets to prevent grip rotation.
