On my Raven Tour, which is about the same vintage, the noodle is on the same side but the brake cable runs down the far side (as looking at the photo) of the top tube, then loops round behind the seat post to the noodle.

The mounting of the shifter is very neat, isn't it. I really prefer drop bars but am persevering with the flats for the moment - still looking for the right bar ends.

Thanks Donerol, that's what I was thinking, the brake cable looped around the other side or the seat tube and with the noodle more upright, I guess either way is fine so long as the noodle doesn't interfere with the paintwork. It's a beautiful looking bike just looking for a new owner.

I got those drops from SJS cycles and they work fine with the gear shifter on the stem. I hate flats as they cause my my wrists to ache after an hour or two.
It look as if this bike is now sold by the way.

Congratulations, Steve. That dark green is absolutely the tastiest color available on any Thorn. Yeah!

Agreed, but unfortunately Thorn customers didn't like it so much, or so Thorn say, and the colour has been dropped from the range, despite it being possibly the most common colour to appear in photos of Thorn bikes from the past ten years or so.

Sadly true, sales figures don't lie! It used to be really popular I suppose tastes must be changing.

Brilliant, I've just bought a green one!  Might acquire rarity value or at least prove I'm not well aligned to contemporary tastes.  I've enjoyed the understated black for the last few years but do appreciate the traditional qualities of British racing Green.

Conservatively reliable while being unostentatiously fast.

Now how on earth am I going to park up a fluorescent pink Nomad at Glyndbourne this summer?! It simply has to be BRG. The Boat Race, Ascot, Lords; oh the ignominy of it all!  ;)

You can at least make Henley where the Leander club favour pink and would approve I'm sure....
