Thorn Nomad spannner
« on: January 30, 2014, 11:34:24 am »
In my recent travels I seem to have misplaced that most essential of tools - my Thorn Nomad's EBB spanner. Can't seemto find it anywhere with a search of the SJS web page. Does anyone have a link to this component so that I can purchase a replacement?

Thanks Andy. Close, but no cigar.

The Nomad one has two pegs or pins about 15mm apart that engage the holes in the EBB. But you pointed me in the right direction; it is this one  ;D

Damned if I know how it got misplaced from my seat bag  ???

I think I have a spare following my recent purchase.  I'll look through my box of bits and get back to you..

That's interesting. How do the 2 pins engage into the bottom bracket?
I have a Raven so would use the

The EBBs are different on the RT and RST.  The former has the notches around the edge and uses the C-spanner you link to, the RST is simpler with just two holes drilled http://www.sjscycles.co.uk/eccentric-bottom-bracket-insert-fits-raven-mk2-sport-tour-etc-732mm-for-external-bearing-bottom-bracket-gold-prod16620/

I did not like how sloppy the M6 bolts in the wrench fit into the eccentric, so I made a wrench with a piece of quarter inch diameter Aluminum rod that fits into the two small holes very nicely.

In the 1960s and 70s a lot of 3 speed bicycles came with a wrench that was stamped out of steel that would fit most of the critical nuts and the locking ring on the bottom bracket.  I found that a couple minutes with a file was sufficient to convert that wrench into a good S&S coupling wrench.

I would be interested in the spanner if it's available.
