Forum update coming soon
« on: January 25, 2014, 08:29:35 PM »
Hi All!

Our version of SMF (the software that runs the Thorn Cycling Forum) will soon no longer be supported, so must be updated to a new version.

I will update/upgrade when Forum traffic is at a low point and expect little disruption; things should look and function pretty much the same but with better security and administration on the back side. As with any such changes, there can be a few niggles and hiccups, but those have been pretty much addressed by this time.

Please let me know of any problems by PM, email, or through replies to this topic should you find anything to be troublesome in the weeks ahead.

All the best,

Dan. (Thorn Cycling Forums Administrator)

Thanks! It'll be just a bit, Andre. Still working on the particulars in the background.

All the best,

Dan.

Uncontrollable laugher releases adrenalin into the system. It's quite as good for you as pedaling up several hills. Thanks, Anto, you're a gas man!

Oh, but I know better, Anto! Nothing better than blame shared if it all goes haywire.  :D

Putting the task off a bit longer after finding vague reports of Trouble with the last incremental update...which was s'posed to fix the prior bugs.

All the best,

Dan.

Noting that our forum is powered by 'Simple Machines' I wondered whether The Administrator would care to inform us if it was chosen to reflect the sublime efficiency of the bicycle or our cohort's unproven genius! We should be told  ;)

The principle of conservation of bugs requires that for each bug fixed, a new one must be introduced (3rd law of programming). You just hope the new bug is in something that doesn't get used as much. :-)

I can't share all the secrets, Ian, except to say I once enjoyed the music of Simple Minds and Florence and the Machine ain't bad; put 'em together and....

Don't You Forget About Me will be heartfelt request if things go awry and I need to seek asylum in Scotland. If all goes well, Dog Days Are Over.

All the best,

Dan. (...who denies any conspiracy theories and nods at George's sage observation)
