Rohloff hub serial numbers reference
« on: November 17, 2013, 02:05:40 AM »
Hi All,
How about we create a list of Rohloff hub serial numbers with names and locations, and maybe type of Bike.
I think it would be interesting to see where Rohloff hubs ended up!

So, let me start. The next one shall Copy and Paste my line and add Your own.

Given the age of the Enduro, it is entirely possible the serial numbers are printed on a yellow-and-blue Rohloff sticker that is...no longer attached to the hub shell.

See: http://www.rohloff.de/en/testarea/news_neu/faq_detail/index.html?tx_ttnews%5Byear%5D=2006&tx_ttnews%5Bmonth%5D=12&tx_ttnews%5Bday%5D=08&tx_ttnews%5Btt_news%5D=1583&cHash=caf3f3cf68a3eb14dd8ec6e9972a7f03
Html-tagged photo courtesy Rohloff at the above link:

More recent Rohloff hubs have the serials laser-etched on the hub shells.

Best,

Dan.

Bike sold, couldn't get my leg over the crossbar - it's an age thing   :)
Magic bike though.

I'm dreading the day!

I sharply bend my knee, then swing my knee over the top tube in front of the saddle, thus do not have to lift leg over the saddle.

Note that I stand really close to the handlebar and lean a bit forward over it.  If you try it, apply one or both brakes so that when you are standing on one leg, the bike does not roll.  And try it slowly first, if you try it fast you will probably get it wrong and then get frustrated.

I chose my bike with the highest top tube (horizontal) for this photo, it is easier with a sloping top tube that is lower.

I'll try that, George, thank you. My back pain is progressively worsening. Fortunately I don't feel it at all once out riding.

It may help to get comfortable on one foot holding onto the bike with one or both brakes on, you are a tripod that way and very stable.  If you stand there for five or ten seconds, you get a better feel for it.  But I have seen people that see me do it, and they try to do it as fast as I do and they fall over, or bang their knee into the saddle or for some other reason screw it up.

As a kid I had a paper route.  Not sure if that term is used in countries other than USA, I delivered newspapers to peoples homes.  And I had an old single speed bike with giant wire baskets on back to haul the papers.  And with a bundle of papers stacked up on top of the rack, I could not swing my leg over it.  So, started using the knee over top tube method.  Have been doing that now for almost 60 years.
