My Thorn Raven for sale
« on: November 06, 2013, 12:43:27 PM »
Well after my trip I am now sure that cycle camping is out for me.
Now im dreaming of a Thorn Mercury for a LOJOG run next Year... B&B all the way of course....

My lovely Thorn is now on ebay

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Thorn-Raven-Tour-The-Ultimate-Touring-Bike-587S-/131040276870?pt=UK_Bikes_GL&hash=item1e829bf186

know how you feel Ian i sold my sherpa for mainly the same reason but as soon as i sold it i regretted it.so think a bit longer before you sell when its gone its gone.
i think if you had to have another guy on that trip with you some one who's dead easy to get on with and likes the CRAIC you would think different.
solo aint for everyone certainly not me i like company someone to share the load ;)

i'm now trying to build up a lightweight touring kit for the raleigh.
best of luck buddy.

Real nice job on the eBay listing, Ian, and someone will be lucky to get it. Looks very nice indeed.

It is always sad to see a bike go, but not if it helps you define your needs and wants, as this one has. I think that gunmetal Mercury is stunning and it sounds far better suited to your intended use and preferred style of riding going forward with the experience of loaded solo touring behind you*. Are you headed toward ownership? 'Kinda hoping so, as there's been a dearth of Mercurys on the Forum and it would be great to see more photos and ride reports on these wonderful machines.

All the best,

Dan. (*...who dearly loved reading about your French touring adventures)

Thanks guys,
I am defo sure it is the right thing to do, that Mercury on the SJS site is lovely, however at that sort of money I would prefer to pour over the specs, design my build and have the exact bike I want.
A Mercury is without doubt going to be my future bike, however I moved into a new apartment, currently looking for new work and recovering financially from my trip so it will be a while before I can spend that sort of cash.
In the meantime I have purchased a inexpensive road bike from my local bike store to see me through the Winter for training.

Sounds like a good plan, Ian.  Good to know you're back on a bike in some form in the meantime!

All the best,

Dan.

Ian's bike is very close to closing on ebay as I type. Someone is going to get a great bike for a good price. If I were taller....
