S&S Couplings and transporting a tandem
« on: August 17, 2013, 01:24:45 PM »
We have just managed to fit two suitcases, one Cervelo P3 TT bike with its H3 wheels out and a Thorn tandem into the back of a Ford Focus thanks to the S&S couplings. This was a dry run for loading the car for an upcoming trip, and it makes a bit of change from using roof bars!

...and left room for people, too!  ;D

My goodness! What an astonishing feat, Robert -- wonderful!

In contrast, I found there was *just* room for my uncoupled Nomad Mk2 plus a front passenger and myself as driver inside my 1989 Honda Civic hatchback. Had to take the wheels off and arrange the frame just right and scoot the passenger seat full-forward.

The racks and mudguards were major limiting factors for me, but the lot would have been considerably smaller had it been split.

Best,

Dan. (...who thinks couplers and some careful packing gave a stellar result!)

There was sufficient room left for two people! We left the tandem wheels in their respective frame sections, but had to take both wheels out of the TT bike.
