Thorn Mercury and Disc brakes.
« on: July 22, 2013, 06:25:21 PM »
I was just reading the Mercury brochure and it seems that the recommendation is to have a disc brake on the rear and then a v or disc at the front.

Why would you want a disc at the back?  Surely most of  the braking is done at the front.

Hi Zero!

The caliper drop adapter mounted to the seatstay bridge is used for mounting the rear caliper; no v-brake studs are included, so a rear v-brake isn't possible; only an alternative disc.

I'm guessing -- and it really is just a guess -- the rear stays are so light, better braking can be had with a disc than V's, and it allows maximum versatility with the caliper drop adapter.

Best,

Dan.

If I ever get a Mercury, it will have disc brakes back and front.   8)
