Hi guys,

I'm leaning towards getting the Andra rims straight away, rather than starting with Grizzlies. As much as I'd like to have a more responsive bike on the European holiday, I can't be bothered with the hassle and expense of changing over to heavier duty later. I've decided that Rule No. 5 applies here. (For those not familiar, see The Rules by Velominati - The Keepers of the Cog http://www.velominati.com/the-rules/. There is wisdom and honour in upholding The Rules.)

As I am about to order the hubs and rims, I need to confirm the spoke lengths one more time. By my best advice, lengths are as follows:

1) Front wheel - Andra 30 CSS - SON 28 hub - 32 spokes - 3 cross build - 260mm spokes
2) Rear wheel - Andra 30 CSS  - Rohloff Speedhub - 32 spokes - 2 cross build - 238mm spokes.

As I am getting a non-disc SON, the hub is symetrical like the Rohloff, so all spokes on each wheel are the same length.

Are we good to go?

Thanks,
Slammin!

Sam,

Perhaps this will help: http://www.thorncycles.co.uk/forums/index.php?topic=4523.msg39423#msg39423

By coincidence, I just today measured the six spares Thorn supplied with my Nomad and posted all the details at the link above.

Good to go!

Best,

Dan. (...who also urges you to remember the Rules of Velocio: http://cycling.ahands.org/bicycling/velocio.html )

Phwoarr!!!!!!!! Pete!! I love those things! They just look so butch - you could deliver refrigerators with them!  ;D

I've seen that spoke calculator before (it might have been you that posted it previously), but it doesn't have the Rigida rims in its database, and so you have to go elsewhere to get the ERD. SON has a good one for their hubs, which helpfully gives you the ERD back when you choose a rim. It carries the Andra and the Zac, but not the Grizzly (that I could tell).

Thanks,
Sam

I cannot confirm, my recent build was 36h, not 32h.  But I used this to size rear spokes and it worked fine.  I got ERD for the Andra 30 rim  from SJS website.
