Humpbert & Ergon marriage?
« on: April 14, 2013, 08:08:31 PM »
I've long had a hankering for the humpbert bars.  They seem to be a well though out bit of kit and the versatility draws me to them.

I am however very fond of my Ergon grips (and of course the Rohloff twist shifter that needs to fit on there). Does anyone have any idea, any experience with, whether the Humpbert bars can be used with the Rohloff and Ergon grip, instead of the foam that comes with the Humbert bars? That is about all that is stopping me from ordering the Bars.  Thanks.  :)

Pavel,

I've seen Ergon grips with Humpert Quest trekking 'bars ( http://www.ecovelo.info/2010/01/20/gallery-mike-kos-iron-horse-warrior-expert/ ), but I think you'd have to remove the foam and disassemble the Humpert AHS Premiums to get the Ergon grips on those. Same for fitting the Rohloff shifter.

A quick look at the installation instructions make it look eminently possible: http://www.sjscycles.com/Instructions/Humpert/Humpert_AHS_Handlebar_Instructions.pdf

All the best,

Dan. (...who thinks the above info will only move you to order a set ;))

Hi
I have ergon grips fortress to humpert AHS . generally pretty pleased, being able to fold when on the train is great ( all my tours start or end on the train as I have a dislike of circular routes). I find that due to the curve that my grips are just a fraction further inboard than ideal. If you are ever in the Manchester area feel free to come and have a play.

I found the same.
I experimented with Ergon grips on a cheaper non folding Humpert bar.
The removable ends let you fit the Ergon grips, brakes and Rohloff gear changer onto the straight parts of the centre section, but the curve at the bar ends forces the ergon grips and thus everything else inward.
Fine if you like the grips closer in, but not so fine if you like the width of 'Thorn Comfort' bars.
Julian.
