Schmidt Dynamo Hub Service

After 7 years of faultless service my Schmidt K179 dynamo hub is very rough, light output is fine but it feels as if the bearings are shot. I'ts had a hard life, it's on an off road commuter so it's constantly exposed to water and mud. So is there any alternative but to return it to Schmidt for servicing. Has anyone had one serviced and if so can you give me an idea of the cost and how much it might cost to ship a wheel to Germany. I'm trying to balance whether to get a 7 year old hub serviced or look at a new and cheaper Shutter Precision hub.

Schmidt have recently revised their website, and it is more difficult to find their contact and service information. I would suggest contacting them by email: info@nabendynamo.de or by phone: 07071 38870

Thanks guys that's really helpful, it's performed brilliantly for 7 years so I think it deserves a bit of money spent on it.

For what it's worth, Dave, I think repair is a good choice. The hub is already built into your wheel, it has given stellar service, and for the cost of repair you couldn't replace it directly. Should be like new again after service. Smart choice, I think!

My hub was under warranty when it went rough.  But SJSC sorted it out for me and it was away for about a week in total.

But I think thoses islands in the wash are more interesting then the hubs, thanks for that.  Want to go there now! Can I land on them in my sea kayak?

Might be a bit dodgy during the breeding season, both on conservation grounds and safety ones, being mobbed by angry terns can be pretty painful, but apart from that it should be fine.

Yes! Guessed that it would be out of bounds at breeding time.  At least there would be no Bonxies though
