Running in my Sherpa
« on: April 28, 2012, 08:23:31 PM »
Posting some pics of my Sherpa. Got the frameset in Nowember last year, and have so far spent just above 3000 kms on it. Great bicycle, I am very satisfied.
Comfortable, however not fast fast with the current tyres. (Or is it the rider..)
I simply love my 4 years old Brooks Flyer. Wheels, derailleur and brakes are from my recumbent.
Next on the list is new rims, considering the Rigida Andra 30 wheelset..

Ole!

Those are wonderful photos you've posted; thanks so much for sharing them with it. It is great to see more Sherpa content in the galleries, and yours is a true beauty. Very nicely setup (the red is always beautiful!) and I love the settings you've chosen as well.  My favorite is the one taken on a frosty spring morning. I'm glad to see you carrying a lock as well. One always chafes at the extra weight, but it is necessary to keep such a lovely bicycle. Nice seeing some different choices in handlebars as well.

Very best wishes for continued enjoyable adventures on your beautiful steed.

Best,

Dan.

Nice country, where is the row of old rusted cars?
Also, if you want to go faster, don't get Andra rims as they are pretty heavy, get something lighter like Grizzlys or similar.

Thank you!
Allways interesting to read comments.
I've recently got another bike stolen, it was locked with a wire lock. So I went for a D-lock this time, but you never know when one of these long-fingered are sneaking nearby looking for another one to catch. Sad but true.
The traveller-bar is an experiment; I like the comfort on longer trips, however it looks kind of strange to me..
On snow the tyres are great, but annoying on asphalt. They will be replaced by Continental Travel Contact 1.75 when they are worn out.
Changing tyres from winter to summer is allways an awaited highlight :-)
The rusted cars belongs to a car-cemetery in Ryd/Sweden. One single man was running this junk yard some decades ago. He was also living there in the forest,
in a cabin among the cars. A place with a certain atmosphere.

I wanted another set of Sun Rhynos. They have worked well, but I suspect the red Kool Stop brakepads to be pretty tough to the rims. (Compared to pads which do not last as long as these ones) Changing pads more often that rims seems to be more ecenomical.. As an alternative to Rhynos I was recommended Andras.
Are the Grizzlys just as tough even being lighter?
-Indeed they are more expensive. I have not really made a descision about ceramic rims or not, just that my gear should be simple and functional to get most joy out of the trips. Spring is here!

All the best, Ole
