looking for 38 cm not oversized drop handle bars
« on: April 25, 2012, 05:03:42 PM »
Hi -

I am looking for 38 cm not oversized drop handle bars.

Many brands these day do oversized ones.

Is there a common handle bar brand/type that does 38 cm? And that of course has a nice shape for touring?

Current ones are comfy, but too wide which causes some wrists strain. Nothing severe, but you don't want to encourage wear and tear on your body if you can avoid it ;)

Tx ^_^

Hi Jawine!

I'm guessing you're looking for a standard clamp diameter (25.4mm/25.8mm/26mm rather than 31.7mm/31.8mm).

If so, then you may wish to consider the handlebar I mentioned in this thread for Jane: http://www.thorncycles.co.uk/forums/index.php?topic=4091.msg19004#msg19004 Full description there. <-- Those Nitto Randonneur handlebars have a shallow drop and flare at the ends so you have a wider platform on the drops and a much narrower grip at the brake hoods, where most people often ride. My 45s are only 37 at the hoods...very close to what you are looking for. Randonneur-bend 'bars also "wing-up" at the tops for a smidge more height if wanted, and of course, these fit a standard clamp diameter.

They are exceptionally comfortable and versatile handlebars, and many who have tried them say they are "the answer" after going through a variety of other drop-handlebar bends.

Best,

Dan.

Hi :)

Tx, are there any other options aside from these?

I could buy the Nitto and then find out I don't like them...as the shape is quite different from standard bars from what I heard, so far it's only the width on current Ritchey ones that annoys me and of course it seems all of their stuff is too wide or oversized these days :(

Tx ^_^ will keep you posted ad it seems guys on local cycle group are "hoaking" through content of garages etc too ;)

I didn't expect any 38 to come up men being, on average, wider in the shoulders :)

Guess what one of the local cyclists found a 38 ^_^

I'm afraid I got no spare parts to help anybody aside from...a 42 bar once this 38 is replaced and a 110 reach "forgie" 3T stem.

Was given a Sakae 380 mm wide 27.7 mm bar it seems to fit so going to move everything over today.

Never taped any bars that'll be fun ;) Got Cinelli black cork tape can always pimp the hood covers as these are cracked
