Izumi V Super Toughness 1/8" chain OK for Rohloff?
« on: January 22, 2012, 03:28:08 am »
Will the Izumi V Super Toughness 1/8" chain play well with a Rohloff?

Being in Japan, I can get them quite cheaply, but I'd like to know if it's a good idea first :)

With a name like "Izumi V Super Toughness" it's definitely worth a try.   :D

In all seriousness, it is a 1/8" track chain.  User ratings I've seen consider it good [edit] for single-speeds and track bikes.  See:

The best endorsement I can think of is NJS certifies it for Professional Keirin racing in Japan.  One can't do much better than that in terms of outright strength.  It implies high-precision in assembly and materials, and bodes well for a long life.

Best,

Dan.

Rohloff, who knows something about chains, says1/8in chains fit (except with the Rohloff chain tensioner for which they're too thick) but are not recommended because they have a relatively short lifespan.
