Don't know really, but I'd guess around £200-£250 would be reasonable.
New Sherpa frames are £449 so somewhere around half that would seem about right.

Hi Jags,

you giving up on Thorn or getting some thing else?  I would think £200-250 is the best you could expect. Might be better to sell the bike complete.

hi bob, kinda giving up right enough theres days i love the bike but more often i hate the bloody thing.  its a mule on hills just does not like climbing  ;D now i know its down to the pilot but when i'm on my road bike hills are just not a problem .to be honest for the type of touring i do (tarmac no off road stuff) a much lighter 700c bike would suit me fine.
when i first bought the sherpa the plan was to tour the Himalayas but the pratt that suggested this trip pulled out so i was left with a bike fit to tour the planet  ten times over   ::)
no i'm after a much lighter faster touring bike ,great bike the sherpa can't fault it for heavy touring  but its just not for me./ oh  i was more thinking of buying a  frame and fork and swapping all the gear over it is  practically  new and a great groupset shimano xt m770 . besides to sell the bike as it is i would lose a fortune on it  i have all the best gear on it easly worth over 2 grand.
cheers

Jags.
You'd need new wheels but I can recommend the Thorn Club Tour. I've just had a very enjoyable week in Cornwall on mine. You'd probably get a trade in on your current frame.
Good luck,
Steve

Jags, the difference in frame weight between the Sherpa and a steel framed light tourer is probably not all that much. Why not try a lighter set of 26" wheels and tyres? Depending on what you are comparing with, the smaller wheel and consequent lower rotating weight will probably make up for the slightly heavier frame weight.  Just a thought...

thanks lads yeah i was thinking new wheels  but what to go for ?
tell me this, could i change the front fork to carbon , i was thinking about this before . but would it unbalance the bike,i do use an ortlieb barbag , you hear so often  that carbon forks are a big no no on touring bikes , i dont go with that to be honest i reckon if i manage to find the right carbon forks it will totally change the feel of the bike for the better, but then again I'm only guessing I'm no  expert
. so lads help me out here  give me some recommendations on a good light set of wheels tires and carbon forks.
 thanks again
jags.

Jags

Having read your posts in this thread I would suggest you switch to something like a Thorn Audax Mk3.  You would save a minimum of 7lbs in weight and possibly as much as 10lbs - that makes a huge difference in climbing.

If you got £200 - £250 for your Sherpa frame you would only need to find the same again to fund a new Audax Mk3 frame at £449.  You are going to buy new wheels in any case so that cost is the same, however I would look into prices for getting new 700c rims and spokes built onto your XT hubs for the Mk3.

Thorn say the Mk3 will cope with medium weight touring, it therefore seems to fit the bill for exactly what you described in your reply to Bob.

Sorry if I'm throwing a spanner in the works, but I don't believe you can transform your Sherpa into something that will be as responsive on climbs as the "lighter faster touring bike" that you want.  You would also have the option of fitting a carbon fork to the Mk3 at a later date if you wished.

Regards, Jim

I can barely tell any difference on my Mk3 between the steel fork and the carbon fork to be honest.
I usually have the carbon fork fitted but had the steel fork on last year to do lejog with four panniers, and left it on for about a month or so afterwards. The carbon fork does make the bike lighter but I don't notice it much in real riding.

thanks again lads i emailed sjs on new carbon forks they have forks that will fit the sherpa  around 180 quid and they suggested  lighter rims and 32 double butted spokes xt hubs.
now that audex has me thinking  ;) sounds like the way to go but will it cope with  say around 30lb on the rear rack.

The Audax will carry 15Kgs if needed though it will need correspondingly heavier wheels. I'd still recommend a sporty club tour with some fast wheels.
I've also PM'd you.
Cheers,
Steve

30lb on the rear is near the quoted maximum the Audax can "cope" with, I don't think this has anything to do with needing heavier wheels but more I suspect to do with potential shimmy due to the lighter frame.

Given that potential load then I think your consideration should be narrowed down to modifying your Sherpa or migrating to a Club Tour, which is also a very fine machine.   :)

If it were me, I would be thinking I need a third bike!!   ;D

yep i think i will have to go the modified route if i buy another bike (i have  3) the wife will kill me.
so i think its a lighter wheelset with  lighter tires maybe even slicks.
