Changing from Tour to Sports Tour
« on: July 15, 2011, 07:05:25 PM »
Has anyone here ever changed from the Tour to the Sport Tour?
I am considering whether or not to get the ST frame and swap most of the components over from my Tour frame. While I really like the RT, my expectations of touring have changed and I’d rather have something which is lighter and more suited to faster day rides. I realise that the wheels (Rigida Grizzly) will have to change eventually, but they’re not unreasonably heavy and I think most of the other components should transfer okay. What do people think?

Hi there,
I've actually done the opposite and changed from sport tour to a tour. From my observations, if you keep everything else the same I don't think you'll notice the difference. I'd be more inclined to have the wheels rebuilt with some lighter rims like Mavic 717 for example. The tour frameset is much more versatile in my opinion, I found tyre choice rather limited with the sport tour but there are several more Schwalbe tyre available to suit now.
Cheers,
Steve

I have Rigida Grizzlys on my RST and have no problems with them, I think Andra are the usual choice for Raven Tour.  Given the price of new frames I would suggest getting a test ride on a RST if you can.
