Panaracer Tourguard Tyres

Can anyone tell me how many miles they normally manage to get out of a set of Tourguard Tyres?

I've had around 3000 miles plus from 26x1.75 Pasela Tourguards and currently on around 2000 miles on 700x28 Pasela Tourguards with plenty of life left in them.

I got about 4,000 miles out of my last set of Pasela TG's (1.25")  which I think is a low compared to some other tyres.  However on the plus side they are very light and offer pretty good puncture protection.

Yeah, that's fairly unimpressive really... standard Schwalbe Marathons will go double the distance, and have great puncture protection, for around the same price.

Those folding Paselas are a good option as an expedition spare though.

Yeah, but Schwalbe Marathons are about double the weight of Paselas which also have great pucture protection. Fair enough if you're going on a 10,000 mile tour go with Marathons, but otherwise I'd always prefer Paselas.

I like continentals! I threw away the paselas when the bike was 6 months old.

My Pasela Tourguards have done 4000 miles (ish), and will soon need replacing. Most of those miles have been unladen, or lightly laden, so that is not a particulalry impressive mileage. However, they are light and fast, and I have only ever had one puncture.

I have never used Schwalbe Marathons, and would only switch to them for extended, laden touring.  For commuting etc, the Panaracers are my "go to" tyre.

I couldn't comment on comparative quickness, because I haven't used the Paselas- Fair enough if they're a nippier commuter. Horses for courses, I suppose. They're not actually much lighter than the Marathons though- 460g compared to 520g @26x1.5". I'm talking about the original Marathons, not the XRs or Supremes or Duremes, which are heavier (in case there's any confusion).

If you do a lot of touring miles, the Marathons work out roughly half the price. They also have tougher sidewalls, so are less prone to failure in that department. They're certainly not sluggish either. Best value touring tyres around, IMO- By some distance.

Just to add to the confusion, it looks like the Marathon Supremes I have, 26x2, are 635 gm - that's for the non-folding type. A folding 26x1.6 weighs 440.

You're right. I got my number from the SJS site. Perhaps it was an older model (they're usually pretty good with these things). I assume Schwalbe know the weight of their own tyres . So that's 460g compared to 730g (for 26x1.5). Not double, but significantly heavier, unladen. Loaded touring is a different matter... priorities change.

For the record the 26 X 1.25 weighs in at just 280 grams - just a shame that they don't last a few more miles.

Looking at the Panaracer spec sheet for the Pasela TGs, I've noticed that the pressure for the 26x1.5 and 26x1.25 is very different:

26x1.5 40-65psi
26x1.25 65-100psi

That seems a huge difference.... is that right!?!?  I've been running the 26x1.5 at 65psi, but will definitely switch to the 26x1.25 if you can pump them up that much harder.
