Nomad mkII S&S on ebay

Not mine, but there's a Raven Nomad S&S on ebay at the moment (size 565L). These don't come up often, so might be of interest to someone. First-time seller though, so I'd ask plenty of Qs if I were you.

I was looking at this, but something just doesn't sound right to me. If you know any different let me know. I received an email from the seller that was a bit odd asking me if i was still interested.

Given the cost of postage, if you bought it you could take the train and pick it up. That would give you the chance to check it and see the receipt  etc.
Other than the bad spelling, no reason to think its dodgy, cant be many like that sold.

It is a bit of a suspicious ad actually, reading it through again (and the Q&A's at the bottom). At best it's a pretty careless non-native English speaker with clumsy fingers, and at worst it's a scam and they've nicked the photos off the internet somewhere. Or the bike itself could be nicked of course.

Giving me a pretty bad feeling, anyway (especially since I was the one who pointed it out! ). If anyone does go for it I'd make absolutely sure you pay through paypal on the ebay system, as that way payments are held for new sellers until goods are confirmed received. IF it's a scam they'll probably know that, and try and get you to pay by some other means (like Western Union to Lagos ).

If it in fact belongs to someone on here I'll be ramming my foot firmly down my throat

Hmmm, the spec list he gives does look like it was copied from a receipt, so he's probably genuinely got one. Probably too late to find out now, since it ends in 14 hours. Perhaps I'm being paranoid   

Mind you, who ends an auction at 06.45 on a Sunday morning

I must admit I saw the add thought cool a newish yellow one, then the more I read the add the more I thought something doesn't feel right. At best I think someone bought something they later realised was more than they needed.

On the plus side he claims he bought it, has the reciept and and doesn't have a problem with someone  viewing it at his home

Do come back and tell us what happened, Richie. I see it went for 1703 which is pretty reasonable for a near-new bike that last year cost the best part of three grand.

Well I emailed a few questions to the seller (very close to the auction end I must admit)  I never received an answer and I live near London so I decided not to bid.

So Alas it was not me who got a bargain.

I read up on paypal and i Don't think they would cover you if there was a problem with the sale price being that high.

The way Paypal and ebay work together is not very friendly to the buyer in case of things going missing in the post, problems etc the dates for reporting stuff to royalmail/ebay/paypal are all over the place and its very easy to come a cropper.

Therefore I am still in the Market and will gladly pay £1704 (£1 increase) for a similar bike of similar age:)

I don't fully understand how the process works, but I know Paypal/ebay hold back payments to new sellers until the goods are confirmed received by the buyer. I sold something on there a while ago and had to wait three weeks for the payment to clear, because the buyer didn't log-in again and confirm it had arrived.

I'm not sure what happens then though, if there's a dispute. I was assuming if the seller doesn't have any proof of postage (which they won't...unless they send you a box of bricks or something) you'll get your money back. Perhaps it's not that simple...

I don't know what all the fuss is about, as someone who has bought and sold lots of stuff on Ebay including my thorn Sherpa, I've had no problems. You just have to use a lot of common sense and do your homework.
As I said in a previous post, for such an expensive purchase a trip on the train or in the car to pick it up and pay for it after checking paper work would be worth it.
If it had been a 510 frame I would have been to see and buy it.

I think the concerm was bobs that the chap seemed to have spent a lot of money on something he didn't seem to know to well
which you'll agree isn't the normal thorn owner, especially given the amount of money they spent. even more so when they have joined ebay in 2007 but only had 3 items sold and one of those  the seller refused to through with as they didn't get the money they wanted

I don't think it's unreasonable to see something that doesn't look or feel right

but as you said if someone did buy it and it's genuine then they have saved a bit of cash
