Audax MK3
« on: October 04, 2010, 07:52:56 pm »
I am building an audax mk3 bike , I have a shimano Deore triple chainset (hollowtech II) but do not have a bottom bracket, after researching hollowtech II bottom brackets I have found that there are two types road and MTB, i believe the difference is road 68mm BB shell width and MTB 73mm width, although the Deore BB can be used for 68 or 73 with the supplied spacers. Could anybody advise if I buy a Token BB hollowtech II (which I am told is 100% Shimano compatible and available from LBS ,the Shimano BB is not) , do I buy the road or MTB version (I think I need the MTB version but want to be sure before ordering).

My Audax Mk3 has 68mm BB shell width, and a Veloce English (BSA) 68x111mm bottom bracket fitted, so guess you need road version.

sure you've sorted it by now but for future reference just buy a  shimano deore/lx/xt etc H11 mtb bb from chainreactioncycles/wiggle etc. you can then fit the deore chainset to any standard threaded  (english) 68 or 73 mm bb frame  by changing the spacers about ( see instructions that come with it) I'd avoid Road bottom brackets with mtb chainsets like the deore. They are different .
