Bob's new Raven Tour
« on: March 01, 2010, 11:08:52 AM »
The Sherpa has sadly has gone to a very happy new owner. This is the replacement Raven Tour which I built up. Not done many miles due to the weather up here but will have to get some miles in before my trip in May  from Passau - Vienna.
I was surprised how easy it was to set up, cut the gear cables too short the first time. Bought the expensive cable cutting guide which then made it very easy. May still change the bars for comfort ones.
Too early to say if it is better than the Sherpa because it is a hard act to follow.
Bob.

Nice!  I'm looking forward to the fun and games of building up an Audax Mk3 in the coming week, so will bear in mind cable cutting....

Enjoy it...

Nice one Bobs. That's a very good looking bike! Hope you are going to be as happy with your RT as I am with mine.

Looks like spring is on its way judging from the sunny weather :)

That's a good build.  I think of the RT as being very similar to the sherpa but with a rohloff.  It will be interesting to hear your comparisons.

Geocycle,

I have not done may miles yet but my first impressions are that it is very similar to the Sherpa. I'm getting used to the Rohloff and I like it. The noise in gears 1-7 is not that bad and gears 8-14 are silent and very good. I like the simplicity of the whole set up and the ease you can change gears.
I don't think one bike is better than the other, they are both very good just different in their own ways.

That is a lovely bike Bob, i'm sure you will like it more and more the longer you own it.

That was / is certainly my experience of the RT.

Enjoy!

Gary.

Very nice,

what is the make of that kickstand? As I have been meaning to get one for my sterling for ages but never found one that would A) fit, B) not void thorn's frame warranty.

oh i also like your extended mud flap :)

Here is a link...
the kickstand works very well with a loaded bike.

The extended mudflap is a piece of plastic drinks bottle and duck tape, works very well.

I had something similar, but found the tape would become unstuck after a lot of rain. Ended up getting a Brompton mud flap and attaching it with cable ties

Really nice build Bob, you've done a fine job.
Hope you get some better weather soon and get the miles in ready for your tour.

Great looking bike Bob, I think the rohloff hub grows on you more and more as you use it.
