the copenhagen wheel
« on: November 29, 2009, 11:59:04 am »
I heard about this last night on the BBC World Service. It appears to be an electric device incorporated in the rear wheel which stores power from braking and going downhill then delivers this power for hillclimbing etc.
It sounds somewhere between the Holy Grail and snakeoil but as it is a project by MIT, there might be something in it.

I've heard of something similar used in cars called KERS - or the Kenetic Energy Recovery System.  Some Grand Prix cars used it last season and I think there are some production cars using it too.  It sounds like a good idea for a bike.
