I don't understand why the AGUs have a roll closure and an overlid, you can make waterproof bags with either, I don't see the point of both.  The back protection doesn’t look up to much, this is the only place I’ve worn any panniers out.  And where’s the colour choice?
If you want to compare quality panniers, Vaude should be on the list.  They've been making roll tops almost as long as Ortlieb.  Originally they looked like copies, they've since gone their own distinctive way.  Solid backs and the best fitting system I've used, rear sets shaped for heel clearance, some models with outer pockets and priced somewhere between AGU and Ortlieb or even cheaper from German Ebay.

Haven't used them but they're half that price from here;

Though not in stock at the moment.
They've come up several times on the Cycle Chat forum, general opinion of those who have them are that they're strong, waterproof and excellent value.  They're not as well finished as Ortliebs and the fittings are a bit basic, you can't have everything for that price!

No, it's for a pair.  There's some on CC who've bought them at that price.

Ortleib are proven over many years.

I bought the Ortleib Bike-Packer plus after 2 years of reading reviews.

They are absolutely faultless so far and I expect them to last a long time.

They cost £30 more that the Agu.

I can live with that, that's just half what it costs to fill my car with petrol.

Agreed..the amount difference may seem a bit at the time of purchase but considering the amount of time they last then pence per day the ortlieb I doubt can be beaten.

That said

not wanting to use a trailer would a bike..say a sherpa..be able to use the biggest ortlieb on the rear AND the front improving my carrying capacity.

Obviously the front although large in size, would carry the lighter stuff such as clothing etc.

I've had that on my favourites for some time, kinda highlighted just how many people use thorn


I have in my mind 2 sets of 40 litre ortliebs along with a bar bag and the usual bags for tent and roll

although from ortlieb uk they are £67 a pair of 40 litre
