His and hers Thorn Raven Tour bikes
« on: August 20, 2025, 04:34:14 PM »
Hi. Just joined the group and first post. Reason is that I’ve inherited the responsibility of trying to get rid of my mum & dad’s Thorn bikes. Dad is too old to ride now so time for these two beauties to be passed on to the next adventurer. These Thorn adventure bikes are rather niche (in relative cycling terms) so thought this group is the perfect audience to find a potential buyer (or buyers) for these bikes. Both are 26” Raven Tour models, both fully rack mounted, Rolhoff 14spd hubs, XTR brakes, the red one has Brooks saddle and a battery front hub for extra umph. They’ve seen a few adventures around Europe and the UK so asthetically a little rough, but mechanically excellent. Size wise, the Red one would suit a smaller rider (~5’4”)  whilst the Green one will suit a medium rider (~5’8”).. Located in Tetbury, Gloucestershire. Any interest would be much appreciated! Cheers, and happy adventures everyone!

Im sure there will be lots of interests in these bikes; they look ready to tour.
Perhaps post a photo of the frame sizes ( stamped into the bicycle frame, beneath the bottom bracket).

I converted my wife’s hybrid to an electric front hub some years back and had to file out the front forks from 9mm to 10mm to accept the emotor axle…..which meant the original wheel could not be refitted.   You might want to check what has been done to the red one to fit the emotor hub, as no doubt you still have the original wheel?

For pricing - I recently paid £700 inc delivery for a Raven Tour in good condition with nearly new Marathon tyres, chain and a tidy frame, with front and rear racks.  Just needed new brake cables and blocks and an oil change.  You will find Raven Tours at over £1000 on ebay but they do not seem to sell.

Nice looking bikes. Do you know the stand over height and effective top tube length for the smaller raven?

Hi, just checking back in with this forum.

In terms of frame sizes, I’ve posted the serial numbers below

Both are ‘L’ according to the SNs (Green = 587L08025, Red = 487L07005).

Effective toptubes: 40cm (Red), 42 (Green)

Stand over heights (tyres are flat so I’ve given a range): 70-71cm (Red), 72-73 (Green)

Regarding the motor : I’ve spoken to Thorn bikes who say that it’s likely the fork has been filed, I’d have to check for signs of it, let me get back to you on that one.

Price-wise: I’m looking for £750 per-bike or we can do a deal if you’ll take both.

Cheers!

It’s not very clear in the photo of the frame number for the green bike. Are you sure it’s 587L. The reason I ask is that frame size is a large and the virtual top tube according to Thorn literature is 630mm but the bike looks more like a medium/small. Could it be 537L, I wonder?

L means a longer top tube for flat handlebars, not Large size frame

Looking at the frame and your own height I’d say it is a 537L.  I’m a tad taller and that is the size I’d ride.  Nice bikes.

On closer inspection you are in fact correct, it’s 537L, not 587….

If you’re interested give me a call on 07511881685.
