ThornAudax Mk3
« on: March 30, 2025, 08:46:23 PM »
Hello!

In the near future, I will be putting my Audax size 555S up on here - hardly ridden it since the pandemic.  I will be outlining spec, photos etc., once I've cleaned it up.  In brief, Green, DT Swiss wheels, 853 forks, Tubus Ti rack, 3 x 10, 65mm cranks.  I'll be keeping my Sherpa!

If anyone interested in more info now, pm me.

Me again.  Thorn Audax Mk 3, size 555S.  Brit Racing Green.  Purchased new from Thorn 2017. All receipts available

I am 5'8" tall, 1740mm.  I find it an excellent fit and comfortable bike.  Current set-up relatively upright, long steerer tube gives plenty of opportunities for change.
Cranks - 65mm, Thorn Chainset.  Deore Cassette.  48/36/26   10 sp 11-36.  Will be sold without pedals, temporary pedals can be fitted
Frame 858 Thorn tubing, Reynolds 853 forks.  DT Swiss R460 wheels, Scwalbe One 28-700 tyres.
Tubus Ti rack, pump on seat tube pegs.
Currently with bar end shifters, original brifters will be included.
Shimano BR-650 caliper brakes
New spare cassette available.

Pricing is difficult in current market, £500 ono?  Collection from Sheffield only, or meeting elsewhere by arrangement.

Reason for sale - getting older, now prefer Sherpa!  This bike has served me very well, never even a puncture, but needs a new home - hardly ridden it since pandemic.

Photos in preparation

That look an absolute bargain Lewis, if it was my size I'd be tempted, even though I have no use for it. Just a couple of things:
Quote
Cranks - 65mm
Either you have really short legs, or there's 100mm missing there  ;)
Quote
Tubus Ti rack
Those racks are currently an astonishing £320.  Unless you've already had an offer, I'd be tempted to take it off an sell it separately, they last forever, and mine still looks like new.  I think you'd get half price, £160, for it, yet it won't add that much to the value, unless someone particularly wanted one.
Good luck with the sale.

Ah . . . . . thanks, yes, cranks are 165mm, always more comfortable for me that the 'standard' 170.  Well spotted!!

And yes, the Ti rack is beautifully made and I treated myself when I bought the bike, I'll see how things go.

Hello everyone - in order to stimulate interest, I am withdrawing my Audax from sale.  It will now be available FREE!!

Not included in the picture is one of the Thorn water bottle I generally use, I'm not sure if they're still available . . . . . The water bottle is for sale for £500 o.n.o., with the bike included for free!!  How about that? A real bargain.  I've also stuck some pedals on, and the spare cassette will be included with the water bottle and bike.  I bought the cassette some while ago, when availability of some good quality kit looked difficult, but the mechanic who last serviced the FREE bike said not needed.

Reason for sale - not as flexible/supple as I was, prefer riding Sherpa or my Ribble e-bike.  This bike deserves a good home.

Looking forward to all the messages

Me too! ;D There should be a flood of interest, as this is an astonishing, amazing, wonderful offer! It also typifies all that is good about this Forum and its remarkable membership.

Best of luck to all who participate!
