Conti Contact Urban in 47-559 looking good so far
« on: January 01, 2025, 08:51:12 PM »
When Schwalbe dropped the Marathon Supreme and didn't bring in a 26" (559) version of their replacement I thought we might have trouble finding anything nearly as good for our Thorn tandems. When I saw Continental's Contact Urban were getting good reviews in the Brompton size and had three widths in 26", it looked worth a try. I got some in 47mm width from Germany, as SJS didn't have them at the time, and put a pair on our Raven Discovery Twin. I'm very pleased with how they roll and have had no grip problems in wet conditions and after a few hundred km. there is no significant wear. Obviously the final verdict will take a few thousand more km but so far I'm hopeful they are a winner for our tandems and solos too.

Thanks for the info. I've had good luck with Continental tires myself.

It seems like they still have a good range of 26in tires to choose from, right up to studless winter tires.

I've been using Continental Speed Contact 26x 2" for a few years now, been on three different solo bikes ( currently on an old XTC ) Nice fast rolling tyre - comfortable too due to the large volume and lightweight construction. Used on and off road ( despite the file tread pattern )  - Yet to get a puncture. Probably my favourite 26" tyre - possibly not quite as long lasting as the Supremes.
