Travel insurance exc. USA

Anyone have recent recommendations re Travel Insurance for touring. I know there are lots of variables ie age destinations, health status, length annual/single trip. Got a couple of quotes from LV and Insureandgo. I’m thinking Europe/Asia/Oceania excluding USA 90 days plus.

Thanks for this.  Other "specialist" insurance companies were quoting me about £500 for a 3 month tour.  The PO has just quoted me £150 which I am taking.

Age 60, 3 months in Europe.

We have used Post Office insurance in the past - no problems, tho' never tested as no claims.

When we renewed our EU travel insurance last August, cost was quite high - aged 76, some medical issues.  But one insurance company, I cannot recall which, when I checked the 'covered/not covered' sections, would only insure us for cycling on 'tarmac / asphalt' roads.  I queried this - not full off-road tracks but what about established Euro-Velo type routes, Voie Vertes, walk/cycle trails with gravel surfaces?

No, they wouldn't budge - had to be tarmac surface.  So we eventually insured with Staysure, best deal for our circumstances / needs.

I checked out Post office and Staysure.

Long story short, I've gone for the PO since Staysure only cover for 35 days and.my Thailand trip is 50 days.
But I think I will go for Staysure later in the year and take out an annual policy to cover further tours of less than 35 days.

It has just been pointed out to me that Cycle Touring is a specific exclusion of the PO Backpackers policy.  I've checked other policies and it is also excluded.

The Backpacker only covers up to 60 years old.

I am now trying to get my money back and find alternative cover.

I don't bother for my own trips abroad, I just make sure I have my "Carte Europeenne d'Assurance Maladie" updated. This works in most European countries, including all the ones I am likely to visit, and (at least in theory) gives the same healthcare rights as nationals of the country being visited.

Worked for dental care in Spain for my wife and for something medical (can't remember exactly what) for one of my daughters in Germany.

We also have premium credit cards (Mastercard Gold and Visa Premium). These cost about 100 euros more than standard credit cards, and the associated insurance benefits might be a specifically French thing.

I got mine because it includes insurance that covers the excess damage waiver on hire vehicles (usually between 1500 and 5000 euros depending on the vehicle). This insurance is expensive if you take the hire company's optional extra insurance.

My wife has hers for the included travel insurance. She had to use it once, on her Peru trip, where it paid out several thousand euros for hospital fees and repatriation costs. I haven't checked recently, but I think it only covers trips up to about 30 days, and it only works if you pay for the travel or accomodation with the credit card. In this case, we had used the premium credit card to pay for the flight.

We did pay for traditional travel insurance for one of my daughters when she spent several years travelling in Oceania and Latin America.

I eventually went with Sports Cover Direct, https://www.sportscoverdirect.com/.

I took the basic Bronze package because all I really want some comfort with is repatriation if I am injured or become very unwell.  I can use my newly acquired GHIC if I need minor medical health treatment, I can afford minor consultations and medication, bike & some belongings are covered via the house insurance and other stuff I "self insure" on the basis I can replace.

Up-date from me.
Went for Staysure having noted PO did not cover cycle touring.
For my upcoming Thailand tour in May/June
Went for a joint annual policy with my wife. Covers USA as well since we'll be back there to welcome new grandson in October and perhapd next year as well. |We don't have to travel together on the policy despite being a joint one.
Both aged 69.
Paid £483.56 for us both.
