chain tension
« on: September 29, 2007, 12:37:10 pm »
When I stuck the chain on my RT today I had a few issues.

I have a SRAM PC58 chain and a 39 T chain ring and the 16T Rohloff sprocket.

When I had the EBB rotated as far back as it would go and joined the chain with the powerlink it was either WAaaaaaaaay to tight but if I added a link in it was waaaaaaay to loose unless I rotated the EBB almost all the way forward. The tension is now fine but there is no adjustment left in the EBB.

My setup seems pretty common on this forum so how have others dealt with this problem. I can only hope that when the chain stretches it goes far enough for me to be able to pull a link out and get enough slack to rotate the shell back to the start.

Any cloose?

Cheers
Jonathan

A loose chain is better than a tight one.  So, as you said, keep the link in, rotate the EBB almost all the way "forward".  Once the chain slacks off a bit, then remove the link and but the EBB almost all the way "back".

The adjustment in the EBB is greater than a chain link, it'll always be possible to get the right tension.
if you want to adjust without using the extremes, you can get a half link.
