Real nice visit with JimK today!
« on: July 21, 2021, 01:18:32 AM »
Hi All!

I had the rare (for me here in Oregon, upper-left corner of 'Merica and a long ways from Bridgwater) pleasure of meeting another Thorn Forum member today -- JimK.

We met this morning and the pleasant conversation continued non-stop till this afternoon 5(!) hours later; the sign of a really good visit.

It was a real pleasure meeting Jim and talking about Bikes 'n' Life and I think we solved most of the world's problems in that time.

Hoping you can have the pleasure of meeting fellow Forum members in real life. It is nice to meet the "whole" person and not just a screen persona.

Best,

Dan.

Sounds a good meeting!  And if two guys with life experience and integrity can't put the world to rights, who can!  I've got a vague mental picture of the whereabouts in UK of a few Forum members, Paul in Derby a bit to the south of us, Matt in Grampian not too far from our elderly Aberdeen relatives . . . . . . and our main holiday this year will be in Ceredigion, West Wales . . . . . no idea who is there . . . . .

Did you perchance solve the bicycle shortage, surely the most serious situation afflicting the world right now?

Thank you, Lewis!  :)

First on the list, Andre. Short-term solution is to ride used/vintage bikes that still go. When they no longer do, get another. I rode my 1970 Raleigh to the meeting. :D Fortunately, my Nomad never breaks and Jim has one too, so that's a second solution. ;)

May all members have meetups that turn out as pleasantly as ours.

Best,

Dan.

Nice photo!  (Called to mind the line from Butch'n'The Kid, "Who are those guys?") ;)

I have hugely enjoyable memories of meeting you both, separately: visiting you, Dan, in July 2013, as part of my transcontinental safari on my airhead, Hans; and two years later, visiting Jim in the Catskills on a delightful there-and-back, my last such trip on Hans.

👍

Me too, John! Greatly enjoyed your visit and staying in touch since. Attached is a nice photo to commemorate the day.

Makes me wish there was a way for us all to meetup for an in-person chat-fest.

All the best,

Dan.

I'm back in Utah after my whirlwind trip to Oregon. I sure wish I had been on my bike instead of towing a UHaul trailer with my pickup truck... I keep trying to get my life organized and simplified so I can focus more on what's important, cycling being up in the top few items... but the process of simplification is anything but simple, I fear!

Grand fun chewing over the full range of topics with Dan, that's for sure! Good conversation... that might be a notch above cycling on my list!
