Unloved Thorn Nomad

I parked up today next to this rather unloved Thorn Nomad, S+S couplings and all.
The owner did not even seem to realize that the S+S couplings would have allowed the frame to be undone and thus trivially extracting it from the cheap combination cable lock.
I hope this bike was not owned by one of the members of this forum.

Oh, dear...!  :'(

It seems rust has also tunneled wholesale under the powdercoat and that is Not Good.

I see the Brooks saddle is uncovered in rainy conditions (see the neighboring Thorn? for a proper shielding)  and...the mudguards are mounted in an "interesting" way. ??? Lots of clearance but not so aesthetically pleasing.

...and!: Kickstand.

Despite all that, it looks remarkably clean and tidy in the photo. Hmm. Methinks there's some intention behind the setup but -- yes -- the locking strategy is risky, especially for the wheels.

Yes, the neighbouring Thorn is mine.
Oh and note the eccentric bottom bracket is "upside down", meaning that the anti-rotation clamp bolts are pushing into the thin-walled side of the eccentric  :(

You should have left a note on the bike offering him £50 cash for it. With a bit of sandblasting and painting and rearrangement of mudguards etc, it could be worth a bit of loving attention.

It's none of my business, yet it somehow annoys me to see such waste. It's not even about the financial value, it's not my money, it's just that something that could last a lifetime has been allowed to rot away.
