New RST for TSO
« on: June 22, 2007, 03:05:45 PM »
My wife likes my RST. The simplicity of the Rohloff more than anything else. She is not very confident on the road and now usually rides with me on the tandem where she has no controls what so ever.[:D]
However she would like some independence and the RST makes so much sense for her as its very stable and only has the twistgrip to worry about so she can concentrate on the road. Added to this our two girls will also be able to use the bike.

So for those females out there or those who know females with a Raven or Rohloff is there anything I should consider when speccing up an RST for the girls in my life ?

interesting as my wife likes my RST.  But - it doesn't come in a step-though frame (as the Tour does) and if she's not very confident, that might be a problem.  It is for my wife.

Why not get her a Raven Tour and tell her it's an RST?

It's supposedly even more stable and forgiving than the RST and comes in a 'step-thru' option.

Would she really notice the difference?

She would like the same colour, stealth black and I think the Raven comes in gloss black. This could be a big issue. I hadn't considered the step through frame though. Personally I don't like them but then I wouldn't be riding it. I'll discuss that one through.
For me, the RST seems to be the right choice for all the reasons I chose it plus the Raven is slightly heavier and we have been considering much lighter bikes as options including folders. She had a go on the Airnimals and really liked them. Chameleon particularly. However I think having similar bikes would be the best way to go. Only needing to carry one set of tools, tubes etc between us.
