Fitting Ergon GP5 grips

So I've got the old grips off and struggling to get these Ergons on. I haven't tried any liquid or lube yet but they are very tight to start and get tighter as more advanced on the bar. Don't want to use a mallet as I may change the bars so might have to take them off again soon. Any tips?

Yes, spray some furniture polish on the bars. Worked for me, although I did smell of lavender for a while!

I generally use water with a little soap in it.
Best,
Dan.

Thanks guys. Found I'd already hit the end of the bar which was why it wouldn't go on any further. These are slightly shorter than the previous grips. Soapy water made it so much easier with the second grip.

Somewhere it recommends Surgical Spirit (Rubbing alcohol / isopropyl alcohol) as this evaporates and leaves no residue.
I have used it successfully.
