Right, so the bike was up for bidding. At the end of the description it said "I have a buy it now price, contact me at this email br****@gmail.com
I asked for the price, the reply was £1500. Seller offered 6 days return on item in email (
).
Payment details were shortly sent over with instruction to pay into an Italian bank account. It looked like an email from ebay, came from
ebay@ebay-buyer-help.com. Just to be safe, I logged into my eBay to see the message. No message anywhere! Then I thought, if I pay with bank transfer, there's no PayPal protection.
So I googled his email. It came up with past ebay auctions. Dug it up from Google cache as they were auctions that have finished. One had a mobile number!!!! Messaged the person asking if they are the sellers of the Thorn bike. The response was "no, my account was hacked, report them to ebay"
I have the name, bank details of the person, going to eBay with it now. Mind you the name could be fake. Not sure if it had to be genuine.
Anyway just thought I'd share this. Some caution did save me from getting robbed. Always follow ebay rules ( no sale outside of eBay
) , pay with PayPal and don't believe fake emails.
