Thorn 853 goes to Vyrnwy
« on: January 13, 2017, 11:33:30 pm »
Thought I would post a picture of my Audax 853 on a trip I did in October last year. I wanted to ride a double century so I rode from Redditch to and round Lake Vyrnwy and back. Total distance of 203 miles. What a day that was.

just heavenly, that photo! I can barely imagine riding a distance like that! But on that bike, in that terrain... maybe!

Lovely photo, that's some ride. Lake Vyrnwy is beautiful, it was one of the places I passed through on my Glyndwr's Way walk a couple of years ago.

I have an Audax 853 in the same livery as yours, do you mind me asking what wheelset you have as I'm thinking of getting some lighter ones for mine.

Regards,
Neil

The wheels are not a pair. Some while back I ordered a pair of Mavic A719's built on Shimano LX hubs, hand made by a builder called Harry Rowland. The back wheel is of this set. However when I decided to go longer distances I wanted a front light that was not dependant on batteries so I had another wheel built, this time by Spa Cycles in Harrogate. The front wheel is an Exal LX17 with an SP dynamo hub. Both wheels are 36 spoke.

Thanks for the replies lads.

I had wheels built by Spa Cycles before and they were great.

I think Mavic Open Pro look the favourite option, Built on a Son front dynamo hub and either a Shimano or Hope rear.

Glad to hear you're getting a few miles in Anto, you'll be like a racing snake by spring.
