Dutch 'shopping' panniers?
« on: April 17, 2015, 08:17:46 PM »
I bought  a pair (one piece throw-over actually) of canvas Dutch shopping panniers in the Netherlands many years ago. A couple of years ago after a lot of use they succumbed to old age and sun (a bit like me) and I tossed them out. I'd like to buy another set and some elastic straps for one of my bikes. I am looking for an online (probably NL) retailer of everyday Dutch bicycle accessories who are willing to ship outside Holland (to Spain). I used to have a link for one but I can't find it now. I haven't had much luck with web searches. If anyone can point me to a retailer I'd be grateful.
Brian.

In your position I'd check Chainreactioncycles first. They stock the more popular large Basil panniers http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/ie/en/s?q=basil and they deliver free to anywhere in the world. I bought my Basil Cardiff pannier baskets from them.

Dutch dealers generally don't want to ship outside The Netherlands or at most the Benelux. Here's one Dutch bike shop I've dealt with that will dispatch to Spain: http://stores.ebay.nl/BIKERS-STORE/Kleding-Tas-Clothing-Bags-/_i.html?rt=nc&_fsub=11&_sid=109409709&_trksid=p4634.c0.m14.l1513&_pgn=1 It's called the Bikers Store and a couple of brothers called Hagemeier operate it. They too stock Basil gear. They're good to deal with.

Hi Brian!

One of the Basil bags listed here might do the job for you: http://www.dutchbikebits.com/baskets-bags-panniers

Best,

Dan.

Thanks both. I haven't found exactly what I am looking for yet but I'm getting closer. Your links have given me some brands and model names and it gets easier to search from there. I am a bit of a traditionalist so I suppose looking for something the same as I first bought 15-20 years ago can sometimes be a bit difficult! :)
