Test ride for my first unsupported tour.

I went out this morning to test the weight and the way it affected my bike. I'm heading off on the 16th so I'm going to do a day ride with all the equipment before then as well.
Anyway I thought the bike looked how it should so snapped a few crummy pictures from my phone to show it off.




As you can see I've made a few changes since buying the bike last year. I've fitted magura hs33 brakes, replaced the headset (pitting from previous owner), changed out the saddle for a brooks C17, fitted jones h bars (godsend) and sorted out a dynamo light/usb system (son28/edelux2/plugIII).

Lovely! I'm curious about the saddle, did you choose it as it's leather-free? How do you find it?

Yes I bought the saddle because it didn't use leather but I do find it very comfy. It feels quite like a B17 but you could tell the difference in a blind test.

I've been using them for 3 months commuting 26 miles a day and the odd day ride. What would you like to know.

Ooh, what a lovely bike, Dave! It surely looks the business, and is beautifully assembled.

Nothing says "Adventure" like a full set of Carradice bags, and I wish you smooth roads and happy times come the 16th.

Hi fossala,

Have the Jones handlebars given you a more upright position as they seem to have a more backward sweep, and did you have to trim your ergon grips to accommodate the shifter and brake lever. I was going to purchase a set, and it's good to speak first  to someone who has them, to get their opinion.

A real classy number.

Yes, at the grips it has given me a more upright position. I was replacing thorn comfort bars so it won't be as much as if I where swapping out straight bars.

I didn't need to modify the grips at all. They're GC1 grips for rohloff http://www.ergon-bike.com/us/en/product/gc1.

I love having the different hand positions options.
