Panaracer Tour Guard 26 x 1.75 alternative

As its new tyres time I thought I might look at a few alternatives to the Panaracer. I'm quite happy with them on the whole but if anyone has experience of other 'mixed surface' folding tyres I'd like to hear about them.

I use marathon supremes and wouldn't hesitate to recommend. Great longevity and useful on all surfaces although best on Tarmac. Like the TG they have thin sidewalls so could be vulnerable on rocky paths. I've used the same pair since mid 2011 so getting on for 14k miles.

I find the Pasela Tour Guard hard to beat in terms of performance & value - I've probably had greater mileages out of Schwalbe Marathon Racer & Supremes, but I find the Panaracer are a little grippier if I wonder off the tarmac..

I currently use the Supremes (26 x 1.6 foldables) but have also looked at the Panaracer 26 x 1.75 RiBMo -- does anyone have any experience with those? Reviews on Wiggle rave about them, FWIW.  Price also seems reasonable by comparison with the Supremes if purchased in Canada.

As I run mudguards/fenders and don't want to adjust them I'm inclined to stick with 1.75 or smaller so its still a + for the Panaracers.

If you could be deflected from your inclination towards 1.75 or smaller, you should get your hands on a pair of 26 x 2.0" Schwalbe Marathon Duremes before they become completely unavailable.  If I could get them onto my RST they would be in there; however I have previously used them on a MTB and like them a lot for use on road and also on fairly rough paths / tracks/ towpaths - great go-anywhere tyres.

I've run 1.75" RibMo on my RST. They have a triangular profile with thicker rubber in the centre of the tread which I found noticeably not as comfortable as the Pasela Tourguard, they do feel / give the impression of being quite a quick rolling tyre & I found they cornered well too. However I did lose the back end last spring on a damp / greasy corner ( could have been diesel on the road?) & hit the deck ! Upon remounting & continuing the descent I again had the rear wheel lock & slide on another wet corner ( though managed to keep the bike upright ) Possibly a freak incident? - I do think the 'triangular' profile does produce a smaller 'footprint' on the road making the tyre feel skinnier than it is ( a smaller contact patch when braking too ? ) so I am not convinced they're a great tyre on wet,slippy or greasy roads such as in the Autumn when wet leaves & mud etc. can be a problem.

Thanks, Brummie, that's helpful information.  I'd wondered about the effects of the triangular profile.  The Supremes provide good grip in all conditions I've encountered on sealed roads -- not a lot of rain, however, and no wet leaves, etc.

+1 for the 26x2.0 Duremes. I have three pairs on three bikes (one of which is my wife's), and was recently looking for more to keep in stock. They are a fantastic all-purpose touring tyre, and while they don't roll quite like the Supremes I've got on my Trek 520 (admittedly in 700 x 35C), they are more sure-footed in wet, rough and loose conditions.

I don't want to start experimenting with other tyres. Bring back the Duremes!

Yes, Dave, and much appreciated (although the special order made them one of the most expensive tyres you stock, at almost A$100 landed in Australia).
