RST I year and 4000 miles on
« on: September 02, 2012, 10:15:52 PM »
I've now had my RST for exactly one year, and todays 200km audax ride has brought my ride distance on it to just over 4000 miles (6432 km) and I have to say I've no regrets in choosing this bike. OK its not the fastest ride I could have bought but comfort is second to none, and a PB of 10 hours dead for 200 km (achieved today) is plenty fast enough for me.

I plan to continue riding 200 km rides through the winter to get my Randonneur Round the Year award so I should push my milage for 2012 out to 5000 miles plus. Despite having had to ride through torrential rain and flood water maintenance has been minimal, just the odd chain adjustment, one new chain, one oil change and swap the tyres round and that it.

Have had mine now for 18 months and it continues to deliver as a tough commuter. I estimate it has done between 5,000 and 6,000 miles with one service. Best time on the 20 mile one way commute is 1h10, and at speed I estimate it is good for 20-25 mph on Shimano Alfine 8.

I originally thought I would build up to four days a week, but I seem to average a couple of days a week in winter and three days rest of the year.

I swapped my RT frame for an RST in January. No regrets for my usage. Definitely a more responsive ride and brilliant to ride lightly loaded. Real shame they don't still make it. Only downsides, it seems to scratch more easily than the RT frame and it's a bit tight on the chainglider.

My RST has covered just over 11,000 miles in three and a half years. I commute to work throughout the year and the Rohloff Hub has never missed a shift. It was a shame they discontinued it, I love the look of the Mercury but it's a fair bit dearer than the Sport Tour was.
