Bar bag for RST
« on: October 12, 2012, 10:35:02 AM »
Anyone regularly use a bar bag on an RST?

Which one do you use and how does it affect the handling?

I'm thinking of something like the Arkel small bar bag with Thorn Accessory bar so the bag is a little lower than the handlebars.
The RST steering is quite lively and I'm thinking a bit of weight might calm it down a little and also balance the bike a bit as all the weight is on the back at the moment.

I nearly always have my Carradice Super C barbag clamped on the front. I can't say I notice much difference in the handling, but then again I'm rarely carrying much on the back as the RST is used almost exclusively for audax and day rides.

My bikes is at Woodrups at the moment having a new rear wheel built.
I'll try bar bag on it when I get it back and see how things work out.
I normally use a Carradice Barley on the rear but want to trymoving some of the weight onto the front.
Just an experiment really!

I used the Topeak compact bar bag and then changed to the Carradice cordura barbag when I had my RST.  Both used on the accessory bar.  Didn't notice any adverse effects on handling.

I have either a NORCO and a ROSE bag sitting on a Thorn T bar. Even when it is full of goodies etc I don't notice the difference.

Yes I have the smaller Ortleib bag and have used it as a day bag and for touring the map cover for the top of the bag is really good. Not found it effects handling at all and the locking mechanism for attaching it to the T bar gives that extra bit of security for the bag. Have used it in really heavy rain and the contents have remained dry. :)

Jags, Bike has superficial scratches on the end of the bars and Barley bag after a quick look this morning. It seems my hip protected the bike very well.

On the subject of bar bags I realised that if I had landed on my back things could have been much worse. In my back pockets were a camera, mobile and keys!
More food for thought.
A bar bag will be on the bike in the near future, better than trying to find space in the Barley.

yeah it's a bad idea to carry stuff in jersey pockets ,i often seen guys with a mini pump in the pocket ,might as  well talk to the wall as give these lads advice on how dangerous that could be  ::)
