Sizing advice: Raven Tour
« on: September 03, 2011, 07:50:44 PM »
After much trolling around on the net regarding sizing advice I thought I might consult the oracle!

I've considered quite a few other tourers but the Raven Tour has me hooked. That said and all my research considered I think I've reached saturation point when it comes to sizing advice; some of the American sites are extraordinarily specific.  Probably a simple case of overload but in short I need a simple steer in the right direction. I'm 1.75M tall and have an standover/inside leg of 81cm. I would say that I have a longish upper body. I'm going to opt for the Comfort bars incidentally.

Anyone care to give me a ball park suggestion as to which size I should consider first?

Many thanks

Ian

Hi,
I have a 586L Raven Tour with the comfort bars. I am 6 foot 182cm approx. I find this the right size, it is larger than the Thorn guide suggests for my height. So if possible try the bike before you part with all that cash, although there is a 90 day return on the Rolf hub version if you go that route.

Rolf hubs are excellent if you have not tried one yet. I am still getting used to the comfort bars as yet undecided as I still get numb hands with them.

Good luck with what ever you choose, they are a fine machine.

Hi IN4.

In my rudimentary calculations, that makes you about 5 foot 9 ish, with an inside leg of about 31" in real measurements?

In that case you are probably looking at either the 561L or the 586L frame size.  Probably on balance the smaller of the two.  If you have a longish upper body then the Long frame would be a better bet.

I had an RST with a 561L frame and it was a tad too small for me at 6' 1" - I have 33" inside leg.  I changed up to a 587L which is perfect, but I still have a good 8" of seat stem showing.

So I would contact Thorn by email or phone and ask them to give their opinion - they advise hundreds of people like you of the best bet, and ideally get down to Bridgwater for a test!

Comfort bars - I found them the best handlebars I have experienced for long rides.

Definitely call them.  I am about your dimensions and have the 537L.
