Best Tyres for sandy beaches and dunes
« on: March 19, 2009, 11:26:05 PM »
I'm exploring the idea of a ice cream vending trike for the beach I work at. Of course the surface is all loose sand. Rather than getting something like this:http://www.hanebrink.net which is impressive but pricey, I was hoping to see if some of the regular vending trikes (e.g. http://workcycles.com/workbike/bicycles/professional-worktrikes/workbike-ice-cream-tricycle.html) can be modified with bigger tyres.

I was wondering how wide tyres would need to be before they stop sinking straight into the loose dry sand - would 2.5" tyres be enough? Anyone know of any sand specific tyres?

+1 - Endomorphs rock on sand if you have the clearance for them.

Safe riding,

these look great, but I think most of the ice cream vending trikes will have 20" wheels, and I think the endomorph tyres are only 26". Whilst we are marvelling at fat beach tyres, these are quite impressive http://www.landeez.com/, and are built to sit on the sand, and not really to progress through it.
