Thorn Raven City Slicker
« on: February 16, 2007, 11:09:54 PM »
Hi All (this is my first post[:)])

I've been browsing these forums for a few weeks now and can't find any mention of the City Slicker. I really like the look of this bike and it would be great to hear comments/reviews from anyone who owns or has ridden one.

Thanks

Hi,  most of the posts on here seem to revolve around the Raven and the EXP ranges.  However the City slicker will have alot in common with both, even though it is completely different.  What would you be using the bike for, just commuting with little or no loads?

Mainly for commuting in London but was wondering how it would perform on the odd longer ride out in the country.

Not really looking at going camping or on a world tour[:)] so don't need any real load carrying ability.

Also I don't want a bike that's too fragile, although 90% of the time it will be used for commuting I don't want something tha will be damaged by the odd stretch of unpaved road/dirt track.

Thanks

Well, looking at the City Slicker it would be great on the road, and very good on towpaths etc.  The only problem I can see is that if you decide in the future you want to go cycle camping, you haven't got the option to carry lots of weight.  Your best bet is to email SJS cycles - the email address is on the website.  They're very helpful and will tell you the best option.  Other choices to consider are the Raven Tour (good on road, and on towpaths and tracks, great for carrying loads), Raven Sport Tour (even better on raods, not so good off road, not so good for loads).  Keep me updated.

I thought about the City Slicker but in the end went for the Catalyst with the Pace forks. I went for the Catalyst because it takes proper mudguards and a rack which are great for all year round commuting. It's the same frame as the City Slicker with very slightly longer chainstays.I don't need much luggage capacity but once you've ditched the rucksack you won't miss the sweaty back. The only thing the City Slicker has over the Catalyst is disk brakes. Personally I'd rather have the simplicity and low maintanence of the v brakes.

I've been looking at the Catalyst (and the Mercury)... Decisions, Decisions, wish my lottery numbers would come up so I could buy them all  [:)]
