1940s Cycletouring in the UK
« on: March 29, 2015, 03:40:06 AM »
Hi All!

One of my favorite cycling sites...touring in Post-War (WWII) England in the 1940s, well before things like Lycra clothing, helmets, clipless shoes, and carbon bikes: http://www.bikeit.eclipse.co.uk/cyclingprelycra/touring/touring.htm
...more here...
https://naturallycyclingmanchester.wordpress.com/2010/12/20/cycling-before-lycra/

Some nice memories presented here by a grateful and appreciative son.

Best,

Dan.

Thanks for sharing. My local area too. Amazing to see the passes without Tarmac.  Rossett ghyll is still just a very rough track. Not one where I've ever seen anyone with a bike.

Have a look at Cycling in the Fifties by Paddy Megahey on Crazy Guy on the Bike. I think you would all enjoy it.  Regards DC

This video posted on CTC a some months ago is of a similar vintage and in a car but over some of the same ground as in the OP. Wonderful commentary as well! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2jHyutfRo1g
