Rohloff twistshift with Minouri Space Grip
« on: December 20, 2005, 02:37:31 PM »
HI
Has anyone tried to mount the Rohloff twistshift on a Minouri Space Grip?

It looks like a posible solution for drop handlebars?

They are a bit too flimsy

Really!! I have now being riding on with the space grip for over 3000 miles!

The nice feature of the space grip is that it allows you to try numerous shifter positions.  I tried the shifter all over the place.  The most interesting was parallel to the brake hoods pointing up.  (Note I did the testing without bar tape.)

After trying several different positions I end up in a similar position to that of Thorn accessory bar but fine tuned to the reach I require.

To anyone who is interested in using a space grip I would say that it does work but you MUST locktight all screws.  I would also add that I agree with Danger Mouse in that it is not strong as Thorn accessory bar- although I have yet to brake it!

You're right about using locktight on all the screws - I managed to lose both screws on a 16mile trip!

I have my Solidlights mounted on a Spacegrip mounted on an accessory bar.  It's ugly but works OK.

I have found myself putting a lot of pressure on the accessory bar sometimes (changing gear and hitting a pot-hole) and have used it as a mini-handlebar.  I have no complaints about Space bar but I doubt it would take much weight in a similar situation.
