Schwalbe Spicer tyre?
« on: December 23, 2014, 08:49:03 PM »
Anyone ever used the Schwalbe Spicer tyres?

To me they look like the Supreme but at a fraction of the cost.
I'm looking for a light 26X1.5" tyre for around home and if its OK would take it on the next tour.

Or are they just their mass produced city tyre?

Our daughter has these on her Stevens euro-trekking bike which I bought for her as a birthday present this past summer.   She found both bike and tires just fine on her first cycle tour, a week-plus we did together in Denmark this past August.  Hardly demanding terrain, to be sure, but everything worked without a hitch.  One of her flatmates who's a bike mechanic in Berlin recommended the Stevens and set it up for her.  The Spicer seems to be the standard city tire, as you suggest.  I'm not sure what range of sizes are offered -- the Schwalbe North America site doesn't show the Spicer, but it seems to be common if not standard equipment on a lot of German bikes.

i have a brown pair fitted to my xtc   http://www.thorncycles.co.uk/forums/index.php?topic=9883.0
been running them about 6 months and so far only one puncture, my son in law travels much the same route and has had a load  of punctures using maxxis detonators,
they are pretty quick rolling and built in reflective stripe, they seem very well made for such a reasonably priced tyre (I didn't want to say cheap as they aren't cheap, just inexpensive) so I'm very pleased with them, i will probably get another pair in 700x30 for my Scott hack
they can be a bit sketchy on mud or wet leaves but they are slicks so no suprise there
a pair of brown ones just ended on ebay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/391015076566?_trksid=p2060778.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT  i was watching but like a chump i didn't bid  :'( at that price it's got to be worth a try

next time i buy tyres for this bike i'm going for the panaracer folding ribmo in 1.5 as they are 230g's lighter than the spicers (spicers are 660g each, ribmo are 430g)  also looking at a 28 spoke wheelset at the mo as i'm chasing grams  ::)
